Why I Want to Serve A Mission
I know that Heavenly Father knows and cares about each and every single one of His children. He wants us to know the goodness and potential that we have, and obtain a desire to work to become the best we can be. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer, and that it is through His grace and mercy that I, personally, have been able to slowly become a little bit better every day. The gospel is simple, and it is true. Heavenly Father loves His children, His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ came to the earth to atone for our sins, and it is through our acceptance of Him that we can use His power to make the changes we need to in our lives so that we can one day return to live with our Heavenly Father again. My God is loving, merciful, kind, and just; He knows what we need, and His timing is perfect (especially if we aren't feeling it... kinda like that saying "If you wanna make God laugh just tell Him your plan." yeah, there's definitely some truth in that). Heavenly Father knows how to succor His children, even if it doesn't seem like love to us when He lets us go through those difficult times to make us stronger.
2Tim 1:6-10 is probably my favorite passage of scripture in the entire standard works. The apostle Paul is writing to his son Timothy, and is reminding him that he has been given gifts from God, that even though fear is natural, that Heavenly Father has given us power, love and soundness of mind. With these gifts, we should not be ashamed of our testimony of Him, and part of that requires us to partake in uncomfortable afflictions. But the best part is that we are never left alone, because God is always with us. We can do no work on our own, only through Him. It's through Christ, through His gospel, that we can truly, truly, progress, and obtain eternal life.
I think everyone should question themselves on a daily basis, and give serious thought as to how they are living their lives. When I've felt fear, or temptation to stray from the gospel, I've taken the time to ask myself "Do you seriously believe in this?" As I prepare to partake of the sacrament, and review the promises I've covenanted with the Lord I think to myself "So you're in this for life huh?" And when I sit down to read my scriptures every day when I could be studying for a test, or sleeping in, I ask myself "Is this really how you want to spend your time?" I don't always get a positive answer when I'm being honest (especially with the morning scripture study, it's hard for me to get to sleep as it is...), but in the end I know that even though it's hard, and even though I'm weird, (let's be honest Mormons are pretty weird, and I was way weird before I was a member...) I know I'm living my life in a way that I'm being the best me I can be. Even with all my imperfections, unhappiness, and clear shortcomings, Heavenly Father provides a way!
So over the past couple of months, as I was waiting in agony to get my call, feeling absolutely alone and forgotten at some times, to the day I got my call, the evening I was able to go through the temple, and the past few weeks I've been so terrified to go to a new place where I don't know anyone, and I'm going to be the most stationary I've ever been in my entire life (meaning no traveling), I've asked myself again and again "Why did you sign up for this?" I want to bring people closer to Christ and share the gospel in the way that Heavenly Father has provided me (I've always done stuff my own way, and I'll have the rest of my life to make up my own schedule). I want people to learn about their greatness from His perspective. The world teaches us that we need recognition from others to be great, which I think keeps us from fully being able to accept ourselves. I know that the greatness we can achieve doesn't need to immortalize our names in any history book, but greatness comes as we take upon ourselves an eternal perspective. Then, we can share this love, and confidence with others. Christ is my rock, my Redeemer, the reason that I am alive today, and I want to sacrifice a bit of my time and my desires to understand His life a little bit more, and to share that understanding with others. I know there is a living prophet on the earth today, Thomas Spencer Monson who is the President of our church. A church that was restored by Joseph Smith, who saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in a grove of trees when he was only 14 years old.
I want to go share the gospel because it is simple, and it is true. I don't have all the answers, and I know that I don't need all of them, because the truth is simple. Heavenly Father loves me, He knows me, and He wants me to return to Him. This is true for everyone, and I want to teach those who are willing to learn, testify to those who can hear, and just generally try to be a good influence to the people I have the privileged of interacting with in this life. My whole life-career goals are centered around helping people become their best them by forsaking things that are holding them back (helping teenagers with substance use/abuse/addiction issues). My deepest desire in life is to help people see their own personal goodness and the goodness in those around them through all of the negative crap that weighs upon us in this life. I want people to make positive changes in the world, and understand that there is more to life than "greatness" or money or the next awesome fruit phone. You are your most important investment, and your purpose has no earthly value.
So Lubbock, watch out! Sister Lagrosa is on her way! June 5th is when the adventure begins. :)

Sometimes Unaware of Social Appropriateness or Protocol: Personality Theory
I feel like I have a lot to share about my life, and that this whole blogging-as-an-online journal thing is pretty sweet, especially for me because I think everyone's individuality is awesome and SHOULD be shared. :P And I feel like a blog helps capture that because someone's actually gotta put some thought into what they're writing, instead of just like "checking in" on FB or twitter.
...but yeah, anyway. I really feel like I should've posted something super exciting about my mission call by now, and the awesomeness that is now, and also up ahead :P But I'm still not exactly sure how I feel about everything yet I guess... I mean in addition to the excitement... and I don't think I'd be able to articulate it in the best way at this point anyway... but yeah. So I owe a few blogs, about Christmas, Dad's surgery, my 21st birthday... lots of that kray.
For now though. Personality theory. I'm an ENFJ/ENFP... definitely more Judging than Perceiving (meaning I need a bit more order than chaos... I like to call it designated unstructured time :P... which is contradictory... not unlike my color personality which is blue-red) :P But I wanted to take a second and word vomit/reflect on one of the 'weaknesses' of this personality type --> "Sometimes unaware of social appropriateness or protocol" Now I laughed out loud when this was read to me, because I am a little bit on the uncouth side of the social appropriateness scale. Part of me LOVES it, I mean, lezbihonest. haha, but at the same time I feel like it's that part of me that has gotten me into a bit of trouble/ kept me from acting more my age. :P
And sometimes I wonder... dang, how am I going to be a good adult? I mean, I've been sober for a decent amount of time now; and since I don't drink or do drugs... so I can't blame some of my crazy on substance use. And, I know I'm pretty dang mature, because I have a deep desire to commit to the few things in life I know to be true. Also I'm a nurture-er at heart, and I think that being able to take care of people in a non-co-dependent way is a mark of maturity. So there is a lot of that. But I just wonder sometimes... since a lot of social behavior is learned, and since I grew up in a pretty normal white-upper-middle-class-classic-broken-mended-mixed-family-American home; how am I not more aware of social appropriateness/ more inclined to be more in this category?
It is a flaw of mine to over-think a thing or two, but I mean, what can I say? If I'm gonna be a missionary for a year and a half, and then try and be a therapist who inspires kids who have been labeled "anti-social" or "substance abusers" shouldn't I be a little more orthodox? I mean sure there's all kinds of people in the world, but I'm already treading on grounds that aren't exactly docile--in the mission field I'm already weird because I'm LDS; and in the psych field I'm weird because of the adult-teen relationship tension--so I mean, that's enough going against me already right? Can I really afford to be socially inappropriate?
Hm. Well, I guess we'll find out. Thankfully, I do have a sense of decorum. I interview like a boss, and so far my employers have still liked me when my personality has shown through, so that's comforting. Hopefully... hopefully one day, I'll find myself a bit more secure about this particular trait in myself, but I think until then, I can laugh about how I care about social acceptability towards my tendency to be socially un-accepted-ness :P
And with that, I believe it is time to turn the beat around and get my eyelids some sleep.
God is great, life is good, and people are crazy! :D
p.s. this website (http://www.personalitypage.com/html/ENFJ_rel.html) is a pretty accurate description of the general personality types. :)

Awesomeauce.
| We inherited a SWEET shot glass (filled w/ juice) that says "Because I have been given much" Pretty Legit right? :P |
This is my dearest Sophie who just left last week, after she was our roomie for awhile. :)
| :D |
College is this crazytrain of change, and sometimes I feel like there are way too many stops to choose to get off at. I feel like I'm dealing with stuff I'm too young for sometimes, and I also feel like I'm way behind my contemporaries, but all in all, I know that I'm right where I need to be. And its jumping like a fool out of a tree into a pond, listening to children swear at the state hospital, staying up all night with one of my best friends before driving her to the airport at 3:30 AM (see above :P), visiting where I started to grow up on my own, visiting salty lakes, and having late-night car-versations with my bwt that remind me that I'm right where I need to be.

Breakthrough.
Working hard all his life
I started out as a teen
And I remember these things
Calloused hands Saturdays
You gotta fight to get your pay
And what I need I know
But I'm about to lose control
I need a break, but I'd rather have a breakthrough
I'm losing my sleep running after you
But still, I'd rather have a breakthrough
So I don't stop making moves
I need a break, but I'd rather have a breakthrough
I'm tripping on hurdles running after you
But I can see it right at my fingertips
Isn't it classic?
Mama said it's all right
If you cry if you lose a fight
Daddy said dry it up.
I'm proud of you not giving up.
I've been battling so many years,
and I've stood up to many fears.
So keep the faith, this I know,
but I'm about to lose control.
I don't know anymore.
What am I waiting for?
I know, I know I'm giving it all I have.
I want, I want to give up so bad.
How come I keep on running?
But I feel it coming,
I feel it coming on.
I need to catch a break.
Yeah, I hope I catch a break. So yeah, idk, this song is an ode to the weekends, especially Sundays, because that's the break I get to put everything into perspective. It's weird trying to live like one day at a time while tryin to keep the eternal perspective. But for real that's a line I can walk w/ some help and practice. What up Mudder??
This is totally something I want to be a part of and, they ask the participants to raise money for the project. So other than the obvious upsides of having an excuse to roll around in mud with some friends and get through a kick-a obstacle course, I think that this is a great service opportunity to support as well.
So yeah, it'll be legit.
God is great, life is good, people are crazy.

I Guess My Mind Wanders Off From Time To Time
Which also means happy new semester!
Can I just say this semester is kicking my butt already?!? ...but as you know I'm a kray kray and I love it :D
I'm taking 2 Religion classes (Writings of Isaiah and Mission Prep), 2 SFL classes (MFT Prep and Preperation for Mairriage), 2 English classes (Persuasive Writing and Fundamental Literary Interpretation), 1 Psych class (Personality) and one online class (Introduction to Family Processes). I am also happily employed as a research assistant for the Counseling Center and have left the good 'ol bakery for a job as a teaching assistant for HLTH460, a public health class called Substance Abuse and Addictive Behaviors... it's kind of freaking awesomely exciting! :D
This semester is going to be crazy, and I just feel really blessed, because in all the chaos of the beginning of the semester I've gotten behind a bit, and some awesome people are taking care of me from leaving lovely notes to doing my cleaning check for me! ...humans really are relational creatures huh? Sometimes I feel like songs say what I feel better than I can, and the song "So Much Love" by the Rocket Summer is the only way I can describe how I feel about my friends right about now:

Sometimes...
... spending 16 hours on campus is tiring.
... taking a shower is better than an hour of sleep.
... vaccuming while the space heater is on is a bad idea.
... studying for finals is overrated.
... feeling tired and accomplished are the same thing.
... drying your hair with a space heater while reading by its glowing orange light is relaxing
... nostalgia is happy-making
... not using a recepie when you cook = awesomeness
... it doesn't
and these are just a few lessons I've learned from the past couple of weeks :)

hawttt dawgggg (Days 15-20)
I'm an experience person, I want to experience the world before I die... so basically, just live. I want to be able to say that I had no regrets. Here's a quote by some famous person:
Day 16 - A picture of someone who inspires you.
This is my girl!! Amber Sumsion. She is basically AHMAZINGGG! She served a mish, the first thing I ever learned about this girl is that she was on a mission and was supposed to go to Mongolia. But a year and a half later I'm rooming with this chick. She's kind of amazing (and by that I mean she's pretty luhhgittt!). She's seen me high and low and has supported me through all of it. Also she plays basketball like a champ, sooooo heck yeah! She's inspiring. I looove this girl
I've been writing memoir for a class called "Composing a Personal History" It, along with my writing class that I took this past spring semester has really lit a fire inside me because I just love writing so much... like for real, I've never spent so much time revising my work for anything, and this class is teaching me so much about myself and others. I'ts basically awesome, and writing is amazing, and it's definitely changing my life!
I'm a little bit anxious... well... a lot. It's difficult to be open about anxiety and deal with it honestly because sometimes it can be super debilitating. Buuuuutttt, plus side, I can be a little OCT (obsessive compulsive tendencied) because of it, and that kinda helps me stay organized. Still though, it's a little... well... insecure-making. lol
Monday, November 7, 2011
My life is just, like, one big run on sentence, that never stops and has so many tangents and it kind of gets a little ridiculous, also I love commas.
So, my lack of posts this weekend were a direct result of editing a research paper. I was told by many people that I love commas too much. So it goes.
my lovely roomie Morgan and I made bread!! :D
It was Italian Bread with delicousness in it and we dipped it in oil and vinegar! Ohhhh yeahhh
Day 05 - A picture of your favorite memory.
I really don't have a favorite memory, buuuuttttt
I was once afraid of stingrays!
This summer I held that fear in my hands, and let me tell you... it was so stinkin' liberating, like, me and this super pregnant stingray just chillin in the ocean. SO LEGIT! I've held a STINGRAY in my hands!! ... they really are a lot like puppies :D
Day 06 - A picture of a person you'd love to trade places with for a day.
Okay, don't hate... I know she kind of looks like she might smell bad, but I think it'd be interesting to trade places with this chick who sings my theme song (Crazy Beautiful Life)>
Besides I've got the glitter herps too, and I've been referred to as "the Mormon Ke$ha" on more than one occasion. Also, my lovely roomie Morgan calls me Kesh all the time!
Day 07 - A picture of your most treasured possession.
Soooo since happiness, joy, quirkiness, love, the Spirit, craziness etc. cannot be pictured exactly. And since my I don't currently have a sweet picture of my scriptures.... I'd have to say that my cow... Twister is my most treasured possession.
I don't even remember how long I've had this little guy, but he's been with me through sooo much! (Even, as you can tell, overnight road trips and like such as). He is currently sleeping over with my girl Codi, but I visit him every day! :D He's the best cuddle buddy ever, and I feel like a little kid when I do this, but you know how people like hug pillows or something when they curl up/ want to get comfortable, well I always give my little cow to someone if that time ever comes up. Its just like a little bit of instant love. Also "It's so fluffy I'm gonna DIE!" :D
great movie.
And I leave you with these things on this day the 7th of November 2011. I'll try my best to continue keeping up, but now it's back to homeworking and researching and like such as. :D
Also, 300 days! ohhhh yeahhhhh

Impress yourself today!
So today was SOOO impressive!
I got up ON TIME at 6:24. (if you know me, you know I have a weird aversion to setting timers to even 10s or 5s... yes, I know 5s aren't even lol) but yes. I got up on time!
And then my day went a little like this:
8-11am --> 2 classes (Adolescent Development and Social Psych)
11-130pm --> studying scriptures, reading for new testament, official declaration of ENGLISH MINOR!!!!, and more studying yay, oh yeah, and some research time :D
130-4pm--> 2 more classes (Memoir and DBT)
4-5pm --> test review!
5-630pm --> new testament class!
630-6:48pm --> walked homesiez and called my momma!
and now I'm doing homework/research/blahblahblah until 8pm when I get to figure out my prospective TA job for the winter! and then go to a haunted house at 8:30 with some cool cats :D
God is great! Life is good. People are crazyyy!
The Church is Trueee!
Also, I recalculated, I can turn my mission papers in 120 days before my availability date (which is Wednesday January 2nd 2013) and I am OFFICIALLY 311 days from turning those sukahsss innnnnn!!!

Lah lah lah
So last week I was sick, and this picture basically describes my life. I was carrying around a bottle of dayquil, and drinking from it every 4 hours, remedying my dry throat inbetween swigs with some uplifting Halls. My favorite onee of today: Put a little strut in it! Oh yeah its awesomee. Anyway, yeah halls, dayquil, and juice. Vitamin C boosts from OJ and Naked! Aw good timesss.
Anyway, yes on top of illness there was a nail that embeded its way into Bennet's tire! So I got to wander around sunflower market while they fixed it for free! (Isn't Bennet so cute?) Yeah the guys at this place were so nice, they refilled the air twice and fixed my tire all in the space of 3 days and all for free!
I just want to add that getting the air done for you is so much better than waxting laundry quarters at the gas station air pump!

Count your blessings. :)
